Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T „ATOMIC TIMEKEEPING“

Ref.: AT8225-51L – Limited Edition 2021

Never again Citizen, I thought, the templates are mostly bad and you have a lot of work to do with them. So also with this one. But I couldn’t resist this one. With this watch, Citizen has launched a very beautiful watch in the modern jet cockpit style. Many cockpit elements such as head-up displays have been nicely integrated. In UColor DIM mode, I adjusted the colors of some elements so that insignificant objects take a back seat and important ones come to the fore. The city ring (newly made and positioned) with an additional pointer and the additional DST function make the Face a fully functional world clock. Citizen has implemented 26 world times, 2 with a 1/2 hour difference, these two times are not taken into account in my version and are skipped, they are displayed imprecisely in the 12 / 24h sub-dial. I hope you enjoy my work.

The newly re-launched Promaster Navihawk Limited Edition set is – with only 1,500 made – a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The black ion-plated dial showcases a blue to orange gradience that represents the night sky. In addition to Eco-Drive technology — it is sustainably powered by light — the watch has a wide range of features, including a chronograph, atomic timekeeping, 12/24-hour time, and a power reserve indicator. It comes in a collector’s box that includes two clocks – one featuring local time with a gradient dial and horizon line intended to represent a pilot’s runway view and reminiscent of the watch itself – and the other, featuring a world time display with 24 world cities/times zones. Collector’s can turn the airplane towards their desired world city and the other clock will automatically sync to the corresponding time. This limited edition set is the epitome of a collector’s item that every pilot, adventurer, and enthusiast will want to own.

Citizen packs an impressive amount of functionality into the dials of the Promaster Navihawk series. Rather than the clean legibility of flieger-style pilot watch designs, the brand clearly aims for the more technical side of the pilot chronograph spectrum, and nearly every corner of real estate under the sapphire crystal is devoted to useful data. This begins right at the edge of the dial, where Citizen includes a rotating inner bezel with a fuel consumption scale, allowing wearers to track fuel usage per mile during a flight. This dedication to hardcore technical info continues throughout the rest of the design, especially with the multifunction layout of the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock subdials. Citizen models the dial after the look of modern aircraft cockpits, and these graphic trapezoidal subdials capture the look of a modern fighter jet’s heads-up display effectively on the wrist.

Depending on the current complication, both sub-dials pull triple the power, with the 12 o’clock sub-dial switching between a chronograph minute display, a power reserve display and a summer time display at the push of a button. Likewise, the 6 o’clock sub-dial can switch between a 1/20 second chronograph display, a hand day complication and a radio signal display. Aside from the relatively simple 9 o’clock 24-hour sub-dial, the rest of the Promaster Navihawk’s dial design keeps the technical aviation theme intact, with a mix of bold wedge indexes and rounded Arabic numerals paired with a flanged straight sword receiver. The chronograph’s central seconds hand adds a winged tip to enhance aeronautical cues and other elements from the brightly contrasting “horizon line” from 9:00 to 3:00 o’clock to the striped frame to the 4:00 o’clock date window to help complete the look . However, one of the Promaster Navihawk’s most advanced complications is also one of the most visually subtle, as the only external indicator of its world time clock capability is the city ring on the vertical slope of the inner bezel. Both dial variants also give this formula their own character. The model with a stainless steel case gives the dial with a color gradient a bright and sporty red-black color scheme, which blends sharply from strong cobalt at 12 o’clock to a deep black at 6 o’clock. The white and orange accents of the black ion-plated model, on the other hand, give the design a far more modern military character on the wrist, which is reinforced by the gradient of the main dial from azure blue to black.

Citizen powers the Promaster Navihawk with its in-house H804 radio-controlled quartz chronograph movement. The H804 offers a wealth of complications, ranging from a 1/20-second chronograph to a perpetual calendar, Eco-Drive solar charging, a 24-hour sub dial, a day/date display, a power reserve indicator, a world timer, and radio-controlled timekeeping synchronized to an atomic clock that automatically adjusts to the wearer’s current time zone. After a full solar charge, Citizen claims the H804 can run for a solid 10 months without recharging. Citizen completes both models with a three-link bracelet. The smoothly brushed finishing and rounded links of these bracelets go a long way towards giving the Promaster Navihawk a more refined charm, and the two-button clasps are both handsomely finished and help to make the watch a comfortable wear despite its heft.
